The Sicilian artist translates suffering into punk and synthetic melodies and tells Palermo stories in different languages and dialects.
The fatal acceleration of the beats takes you to the underworld like a modern exorcism using drums, a synthesiser, a loop station and Arabic folk improvisations.
MARIA VIOLENZA, born Cristina Cusimano, sings in French, English, Italian and Sicilian dialect, with stories of Palermo’s hardships, the smell of sweat mixed with spices.
Her decidedly punk arrangements blend her distinctive accent with incisive rhythms that lead her to continually experiment with different creative possibilities.
