MAXXI L’AQUILA
National Museum of 21st Century Arts
Piazza Santa Maria Paganica, 15
67100 L’Aquila AQ, Italy
By car
MAXXI L’Aquila is located in the heart of the historic city center, at Piazza Santa Maria Paganica 15. The museum is situated within a Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL) and, during specific times or seasons, a Pedestrian Zone (APU).
We recommend using the public parking facilities outside the ZTL perimeter:
Mega Parcheggio di Collemaggio (Bus Terminal): This is the largest parking facility. From here, you can take free shuttle buses or local city buses heading toward the city center (Piazza Battaglione Alpini / Fontana Luminosa), which is just a few minutes’ walk from the museum.
For visitors with disabilities
Vehicles serving visitors with disabilities that display a valid permit are permitted to enter the ZTL and park in designated accessible spaces.
Nearby parking
Designated accessible parking spaces are available in Piazza Santa Maria Paganica and the surrounding streets (such as Via Garibaldi). Courtesy “Pink Parking” spaces are also available for pregnant women and parents traveling with young children.
Have a disability permit and need to register your license plate?
By Bus
The historic center of L’Aquila is well connected by the local city bus network operated by AMA (Azienda Mobilità Aquilana).
Main Stops
The closest main stops to the museum are Piazza Battaglione Alpini (Fontana Luminosa) and Viale Nizza.
For Visitors with Accessibility Needs
Most AMA city buses are equipped with low-floor access ramps for wheelchair users and visitors with mobility needs.
From the Bus Stop to the Museum
From Piazza Battaglione Alpini, the museum is approximately 400 meters away (a 5–7 minute walk). The recommended route is to head down Corso Vittorio Emanuele (a paved, pedestrianized street) and turn onto Via Garibaldi until you reach Piazza Santa Maria Paganica.
