MAXXI L’Aquila believes that contemporary art should be an open, welcoming, and accessible space for everyone. We work continuously to remove physical, sensory, and cognitive barriers, ensuring all visitors enjoy an independent and fulfilling museum experience.

Mobility and Physical Spaces

The museum is fully accessible to visitors using wheelchairs, mobility walkers, or those with mobility difficulties.

Entrance

The main entrance from Piazza Santa Maria Paganica is barrier-free.

Getting Around the Museum

The ground floor houses the ticket office, cloakroom, and restrooms. The piano nobile (the main exhibition galleries) and the turret are accessible via a short, gently sloping ramp.
Alternatively, all floors are served by an accessible elevator.

Restrooms

Fully accessible and equipped restrooms are available on the ground floor.

Wheelchair Loan

A manual wheelchair is available free of charge at the cloakroom for visitor use. You can request it upon arrival or reserve it in advance by emailing us.

Seating Areas

Seating is available along the exhibition route and in common areas to allow for rest breaks during your visit.

Lighting and Contrast

Palazzo Ardinghelli benefits from ample natural light. Some exhibition rooms may have dimmed lighting for artwork conservation purposes (e.g., video art, photography). Our staff is available to highlight any areas with low visual contrast.

Tactile Exploration

We periodically offer guided tours featuring tactile exploration of select artworks or the architectural model of the Palazzo. Please check our Events section for upcoming dates..
