Designers are invited to recognise themselves as a ‘movement’ at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition – Venice Biennale
The new millennium, which began with the cultural crisis of the West triggered by the attacks of the 11 September 2001, has continued with the economic crisis of 2007-2008, the health crisis of recent years, the energy and geopolitical crisis of today and the ecological crisis of tomorrow. The scarcity of resources in a context of permanent crisis is not only an opportunity, it is also the only direction in which it makes sense to work. There is a generation that has already accepted the challenge and is trying to develop antibodies to disillusionment on a daily basis.
The Spaziale project for the Italian Pavilion, curated by Fosbury Architecture, invites these designers to recognise themselves as a ‘movement’ on the occasion of the 18th International Architecture Exhibition – Venice Biennale. For the first time, the exhibition plays an active role in the production of pioneering projects, allowing the Italian Pavilion to expand across the country. The exhibition brings together nine projects in a unified narrative, including the experience of the unfinished hospital (Uccellaccio) in Ripa Teatina (province of Chieti), with HPO studio and writer Claudia Durastanti as advisor.
The talk will be introduced and moderated by Pippo Ciorra, Senior Curator MAXXI Architettura
in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture and Humboldt Books
