The life, work and ideas of the most controversial artist of recent decades.
Is Banksy an artist or an activist? What is his relationship with the market? But above all: who is he? What is certain is that he has achieved planetary fame. Banksy’s work has always implied a political critique of all discrimination, a critique of consumerism, pollution and the established order. Banksy is above all a ghost: an
exemplary case of fame built on absence, anonymity, on the denial of his own explicit contribution to the public debate except in terms of creative activism.
The book presents the artist’s relationship with the market; a relationship that is at once mocking, distant, hostile and yet all within a marketing logic that has proved to be one of the most effective ever experimented. An apparent (or real) contradiction between satisfying the market and fierce criticism of the market itself.
