1200 entries for 200 tables of images, including dreams and archive material
In 2020, Gianfranco Baruchello completed an impressive and complex project commissioned and published by the Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani. The work entitled Psicoenciclopedia possibile proposes the deconstruction of the encyclopaedic structure itself: through a system of unexpected relationships and juxtapositions, it connects 1200 entries and 200 tables of images. The entries originate from published and unpublished writings, notes and transcriptions of the artist’s dreams, while the images are the result of a long process of selection and editing based on archive material.
This time Baruchello puts the systems of organisation of sight and knowledge to the test. As in all his other works, the Psicoenciclopedia unhinges the most secure and consolidated concatenations to venture into the uncertain and possible, without excluding what is different or insignificant.
