Encountering Beuys: between gestures, rituals and “democratic” language
Is there a relationship between the painting The Vote by Francesco Paolo Michetti, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti’s Futurist Evenings, folklore events in central-southern Italy, and public meetings held in Abruzzo by Joseph Beuys? Ivan D’Alberto is convinced there is, and in his studies he identifies a relationship between these expressive forms, demonstrating how the establishment of the figure of the artist compared to the work has made gestural language a medium that in some cases appears more “democratic” than iconic.
