Taken further and more progressive than a “classical” theatrical show, performance art sanctions going beyond the realm of “representation”, imposing the passage that Grotowski defined in terms of assembly: from the audience’s head to the actor’s body. According to Marcello Gallucci, the new and original feature of the theatrical world requires a rethinking of the entire dramaturgical process, starting with the “present” as the time chosen by dramatic poetry (Steiger and Szondi). His talk will analyse interior time and the place of action: from Aristotle to Auslander, to the Performance Lexicon, to Schechner, and back to Artaud, the dynamics of presence (the actor’s “lived time”) set the boundary of this new kind of production.
