Carved out of Atlantic cedar wood, more than two metres high, the sculpture – which during the summer integrated into the new environment, reflecting the landscape of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park with its mirrored helmet, in the vicinity of the Astrono-cymic Observatory – arrives at the Museum.
Fabiano De Martin Topranin’s work does not depict a character taken from or inspired by an ancient tradition, but rather an astronaut. He is on a voyage of discovery to our planet, and in this we read in slight irony our ostentatious search for the other, for other planets, for an ever more remote beyond. And in the presence of this gaze, amazement is renewed at the astonishing Dolomite rock formations with their surprising anthropomorphisms and the plateaus with their somewhat lunar appearance. The outside world is reflected in the mirrored visor: a perception that splits off, losing itself in the sublime surrounding landscape.
