A comparison with one of the most significant online debate platforms and an encounter with the Internet as it began: the Cypherpunk Mailing List. Scientists, activists and intellectuals used the mailing list to discuss how the world would change through these new technologies, investigating issues that are still extremely relevant: Internet, privacy, cryptography, pseudonymy and anonymity, and digital money.
The texts – also included in the artist’s publication In The Corridor of Cyberspace – are fragments of dialogue from the Cypherpunk Mailing List chosen randomly by a generative programme and based on these five words: better, chance, to gain, enough and entropy.
The echo of these discussions will enter into a dialogue with the works in the museum’s collection and, as the author says, «with the mainstream debate on the ownership of the data we produce online, on cryptocurrencies and the blockchain.
Metaverso is a new programme dedicated to the interaction between performance art and the digital world, through the opening of a metaverse, a new interactive virtual space created in collaboration with the ARIUM platform.
The programme develop throughout the exhibition season by periodically presenting new and unpublished work by artists that will address a range of aspects as evidence of the MAXXI’s increasingly marked interest in developing relationships and research aimed at exploring themes around art and new technologies.
Metaverso allow the public to regularly have new phygital experiences, halfway between physical and digital, in a continuous evolution between the virtual spaces of the metaverse and the physical spaces of the museum in L’Aquila.
