Four experts identified by the Museum have nominated and mentored four young architects/groups of designers under 35. The four projects were submitted to the international jury of the Italian Architecture Prize, which decreed the best young Italian designer of the year.
Following the successful 10-year experience of the YAP Rome at MAXXI programme in collaboration with the MoMA in New York, , and after the experiment of More with Less, the temporary installation realised last year in the square in front of MAXXI’s L’Aquila headquarters, the Museum is setting itself a new challenge. Through NXT, MAXXI intends to combine the experiences and objectives of the Young Architects Program with those of the new L’Aquila venue, promoting a new generation of architects and creating virtuous processes for experiencing and enhancing public spaces.
Dandalò by Atelier Remoto – an architecture studio founded in 2014 by Valentina Merz and Lara Monacelli Bani – is NXT’s winning project.
The project is inspired by the varied, beautiful topography of the Abruzzo landscape; it rethinks the regional textile tradition of wool blankets, embroidery and tablecloths in a contemporary key transforming the materials for the inhabitants in an unusual but recognisable way. Lastly, the loom, composed of three adorned poles, evokes folk festival processions with their characteristic mobile architecture that are a reminder to the community.
From puffy, light sails to a street theatre, from natural habitats to urban stages: in the Museum’s project room you can discover the projects that have reinterpreted the space in Piazza Santa Maria Paganica. Four different interpretations to give a city space back to its inhabitants, to provide the community with a place to meet and relax during the summer and enhance the public space.
Atelier Remoto
Studio established in 2014 and founded by Valentina Merz and Lara Monacelli Bani, , with offices in Trento, Bergamo and Mendrisio. In addition to participating in competitions, they both work as design assistants at the Academy of Architecture
of Mendrisio. Since December 2021 they have been co-editors of the Officina column for Ark Magazine and of RadioARK, a self-produced architecture and landscape podcast.

Collaborative Architecture Office For Research And Development
Founded by Marcello Galiotto and Alessandra Rampazzo in 2012 in Venice, AMAA puts to use the personal sensibility gained in the field of architecture through experience alongside Massimo Carmassi and Sou Fujimoto. The professional activity is accompanied by constant research work and collaboration with the academic world.
Carrasso + Renna
Francesco Carrasso and Angelo Renna are two architects
Italians based in Amsterdam and Prato who have developed over time a special interest in issues related to urban biodiversity, ecology and the relationship between design and nature. They have collaborated with several European firms such as Stefano Boeri Architetti, Topotek1 in Berlin and Rijnboutt in Amsterdam where they had the opportunity to increase their experience in
relation to issues of sustainability and landscape.
Andrea Tabocchini Architecture
Ancona-based architecture firm working on projects in Italy and abroad. Its work spans a wide range of scales and typologies: private homes, art installations, set ups, offices, workshops, as well as civic spaces and urban master plans.
The firm was founded by Andrea Tabocchini in 2021 after working for several years in various international firms such as OMA / Rem Koolhaas in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Kengo Kuma & Associates in Tokyo, Japan, and RCR Arquitectes in Olot, Spain.
